All the plans for the bikes and passengers to UK have worked out perfectly.
We arrived on time at London Heathrow Airport as Vuksich & Greive Travel Associates promised and headed to Hereford (130 miles) to pick up the large size Mercedes Sprinter van from Owen Bros Rentals.
Randy Owen supplied us with a Mercedes Sprinter and a nice lunch made by his Kiwi wife Raewyn. Randy has supported a lot of riders in motocross, speedway and road racing over the years. He also kindly supplied a step so Debbie could get into the van, as her knee is still recovering from a cartilage operation and this is a big van.
Up North to a village near Rugby in the Midlands and an overnight catch up with Debbie’s Auntie Alice and Uncle Tony and then further North up the M6 to Preston where the bikes were ready to unpack.
The air freight organised by Lucas Palmer of Air Transport World Freight Ltd was trouble free as was the pickup and delivery to Fred Walmsley’s by vintage Rudge racer and NZ visitor Mike Farrell who’s family owned trucking firm runs 50 trucks UK wide. Top service all round!
I unpacked the bikes with help from Fred, and they are in the van and ready to head to the Heysham Ferry tomorrow. Fred has headed off tonight for the 2:00 am crossing as he could not get his big motor home on the daytime crossing. The “Steam Packet Company” has had to run extra night time ferries to cope with the Classic TT crowds.
Tomorrow, the Isle of Man!
